Home  >>  Welcome

Welcome to the world of the almost legendary Alvechurch Acoustic Roots, now in its 8th glorious season. AAR is held at Alvechurch Social Club on the last Friday of the month – unless of course it’s July and August, when we close for Summer, or November when we move things around to make room for the always unmissable Alvechurch Dramatic Society Winter production; we're not giving away any secrets about that here just yet!

Our aim is to keep music and performance live, and to provide a stage for local talent, both new and established. The main focus has been acoustic music of all varieties, but we have also provided a platform for local poets and story tellers. If you fall into the general category of live performer, we might be interested !

Whilst we actively seek new performers, Acoustic Roots is not an open mic night; each event is carefully curated to provide a balance of the new and familiar, the upbeat and the reflective, and to give artists new to Alvechurch Acoustic Roots an opportunity to perform. If you're an artist who would like to perform at one of our events for the first time you'd be very welcome, but please contact us in advance. The best way to do that is to come and say "hello" at one of our events. Most artists perform for about 15 minutes, which for musicians typically means 3 songs. Closing acts usually play a double set. If you are interested in performing then get in touch.

The night is hosted by The Stompiesan often fluid and sometimes sober ensemble, perveyours of original songs, traditional tunes and cover versions twisted in the inimitable Stompies style. All of the performers who contribute to Alvechurch Acoustic Roots events would like to reach more people and we strongly encourage performers and audience alike to bring all of their neighbours, colleagues, relatives, friends, acquaintances and any passers-by encountered on the way to the venue. We particularly favour local performers who support the gig and bring their own entourage, however, unlike some events Alvechurch Acoustic Roots is not a talent competition; we don't have winners and losers, and we don't invite performers to return simply on the basis of the number or the volume of their fans. We support and applaud anyone who is courageous enough to take to the stage to share their music, and we invite our audiences to do the same.

You will find various goodies and other beautiful things on this website including info on our regular artists, and information on how to acquire their latest words of genius. There are also links to related sites and promotions.

We love getting messages especially if they are supportive. We can deal with a bit of criticism – but hey, life’s too short. Be positive. If you have the technical knowledge to know how to put clips and photos or comments onto social media, then feel free, we won’t sue.

Acoustic Roots are a team of like minded people who design the gig, send emails, run the website, set up lights, manage the sound, take photos, open the bar, manage the door, control our fan page, bring the gear up and down stairs and all for free – we, Stompies, salute you.
